Police are investigating after the tragic death of a baby in County Durham.
Emergency services were called to a private address in Stanley just after 8am on Tuesday. The Great North Air Ambulance was also dispatched to the scene following reports of a medical incident.
The baby was issued emergency treatment at the scene before being transported to the University Hospital of North Durham by road. Tragically, the baby passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.

A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call at 8.08am this morning to reports of a medical incident at a private address in the South Moor area of Stanley, County Durham. We dispatched one ambulance crew, two specialist paramedics, and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). One patient was taken to hospital by road."
A spokeswoman for the Great North Air Ambulance said: "Yesterday our critical care team were activated at 8.18am to reports of a medical incident in Stanley. Our team arrived on scene at 8.34am and the patient was taken to hospital by a North East Ambulance Service road crew."
Police have now confirmed they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tot's death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.
A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “Police were called to an address in Stanley shortly after 8.15am on Tuesday morning.
“Paramedics also attended, and a baby was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham. Sadly, the baby died shortly after arrival.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.”
