The Metropolitan Police has issued an appeal after a 26-year-old was killed in a hit-and-run in Canary Wharf.

Police were alerted to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a car at 9:57pm on Thursday, October 30, on Aspen Way in Canary Wharf.

Both ambulance services and police attended. Despite the best efforts of first responders, the pedestrian, a 26-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

It is understood that the victim was crossing the road with two friends when he was struck by a blue Ford Focus. The driver of the car fled the scene before officers arrived.

On Friday, October 31, a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, possession of an offensive weapon and failing to stop. He has since been released on bail.

Detective Sergeant Ed Rulton, who represents the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the victim during this tragic time.

“Officers are working hard to piece together what happened that evening, but we'd like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or was in the area at the time and noticed anything unusual.”

Detectives are calling for witnesses and anyone with information pertaining to the incident to come forward by calling 101 and quoting CAD 7997/30Oct.

Sergeant Rulton said: "We urge you to come forward and let us know, even the smallest piece of information could make a difference."
