Thieves broke into a Castle Douglas supermarket on Sunday night.
The crooks forced their way into the Co-op on Cotton Street just before 11pm.
An investigation is under way to establish how much was taken during the raid.
A Co-op spokesman said: “An incident occurred at our store in Castle Douglas at around 10.50pm on Sunday night when intruders entered the building while the store was closed for the evening.
“We appeal for anyone in the area who may have seen or heard anything to come forward to police, who are investigating.
“The store has re-opened to serve the community.”
Sergeant Colin Scott said: “Police are appealing for anyone with any information or who saw anyone or any vehicle that was suspicious during that evening and that may be linked to the incident. Enquiries are ongoing”
