Police investigation launched after man found dead in Kenton

Police are investigating after a man was found dead in Kenton last night (January 20).

Officers responded to concerns for the welfare of a man in his 50s at around 8.20pm yesterday. Police found the man in a grassy area in the Brigham Avenue area and he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A cordon was set up on Brigham Avenue, which remains in place today, as officers continue their investigation. A separate cordon also remains in place in the Burnfoot Way area.

Detective chief inspector Martin Brooks, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is clearly a serious incident that has resulted in a man’s death.

“A full investigation has now been launched as we look to determine the full facts surrounding his death and I would ask that the public supports us with our enquiries.

He added: “Our enquiries remain at an early stage and we are keeping an open mind as to what may have occurred. Your information, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, could be crucial to our investigation.”

Officers will remain in the area throughout the day to conduct enquiries and speak with concerned members of the public.

Anyone with information should contact Northumbria Police via their website or on 101, quoting log NP-20230120-0995.
