Police investigating Leeds canal body mystery issue images of items found

New images have been released of evidence found after a man's body was discovered in a Leeds river yesterday.

Around 9.05am on Sunday, January 15, West Yorkshire Police were called to Bramley Fall Wood Park. Officers pulled a man's body from the canal.

They also found a single key and a 30-year-old map book. New images have been released today of the key that was found as well as a watch that has been discovered.

Officers are continuing to try and identify the man who is described as an elderly white male with a bald head with white hair on both sides and stubble on the face. Detective Sergeant Andrew Greatorex, of Leeds District CID, said: "As you can see in the pictures, this man had a set of keys with a ‘Terrano Filter’ keyring and an Eterna Matic 1000 watch.

"We are hoping that someone may recognise these items and be able to help us in our enquiries to identify this man." When the man was found, he was wearing a beige zipped up waist length jacket, beige scarf, a blue jumper with a red and green diamond type design on, a brown belt, beige trousers, brown leather gloves, green socks and a green and brown checked shirt with a gold metal wristwatch.

Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle of Leeds CID said: "Extensive enquiries are being carried out into the circumstances of the man's death and at this time we are treating the death as unexplained. We would like to speak to anyone who was in Bramley Fall Woods Park area at the time who may have seen this male.

"We would also like to speak to anyone who recognises the description of this man to come forward and provide assistance" Anyone with information is asked to contact Leeds District CID by using 101 Live Chat online or by calling 101, quoting log 407 of 15/01.
