Queensland Police are trying to "piece together" information after the suspicious death of a 44-year-old man in the state's south-west.
Police said the man and a friend went to an address at Hawkins Street in Miles at about 9:45pm on Tuesday and "took up" with a resident there.
They said an altercation ensued and the alleged victim suffered an injury to his chest and collapsed.
The Queensland Ambulance Service treated him at the scene before he was transported to Miles Hospital, but later died.
A crime scene has been declared.
Detective Chief Inspector Garry Watts said police were still gathering details to work out what happened.
"At this stage the post-mortem examination is being conducted and I'm not prepared to elaborate on the injuries at this stage," he said.
Detective Chief Inspector Watts says no-one has been taken into custody.
"We're still trying to piece together the exact details of what happened at the unit," he said.
"We're speaking to residents of the unit and also speaking to members of the public, but we're certainly keen to speak to anyone who may have information relating to this death."
