Police and maritime officials have launched an investigation into a parasailing incident off Phuket's Kamala beach in which a tow rope snapped mid-air, sending a tourist into the sea. The tourist survived without serious injury.
The incident occurred on April 20 as a speedboat was accelerating away from shore to lift a tourist into the air. The rope snapped suddenly when the tourist had barely left the water's surface, causing him to plunge into the sea.
Fortunately, the height was low enough that no serious injuries resulted, though witnesses said the tourist was badly shaken.
Police conducted an inspection on Wednesday morning at a parasailing operator following footage of the incident that circulated on social media.
An inspection team checked the business's operating licence, crew documents and conducted drug tests on staff. No violations were found during the checks.
Investigators determined the rope snapped after becoming entangled in the boat's propeller, causing it to break.
