Police in the southwestern England city of Bristol are currently searching for a man who was reportedly behaving suspiciously on the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge. This search comes after the discovery of two suitcases believed to contain human remains.
Authorities from the Avon and Somerset Police were alerted to the situation around midnight on Wednesday, responding promptly to reports of the man's unusual behavior. However, upon their arrival, the man, who had arrived at the bridge by taxi, had already departed the scene.
Acting Bristol Commander Vicks Hayward-Melen expressed deep concern over the incident, acknowledging the distress it may be causing within the local communities.
Law enforcement officials, in collaboration with the coastguard, are actively working to determine the identity of the individual in question. An image of the man has been released to aid in the search, with a cautionary advisory for the public not to approach him.
The primary focus for the authorities at this time is to locate the man responsible for transporting the suitcases to the bridge, identify the deceased individuals, and notify their next of kin. The Clifton Suspension Bridge, a historic structure designed by renowned Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and opened in 1864, remains closed as specialist crime scene investigators conduct thorough examinations of the area.
