Police hunting driver after car ploughed into pedestrian in horror hit-and-run

Police are hunting a driver after a car ploughed into a pedestrian in a horror hit-and-run crash on Sunday night (March 5). Emergency services responded to the collision on Springfield Road in Wigan at around 6pm.

Paramedics also raced to the scene as police closed off the road. A male was rushed to hospital from the scene but the extent of his injuries have not yet been confirmed.

Police said that the driver involved did not remain at the scene. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident but an investigation has now been launched.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “On Sunday 5 March 2023 at around 6pm, officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Springfield Road in Wigan.

"Emergency services attended the scene and a male was taken to hospital. The driver did not remain at the scene and investigation has subsequently been launched to locate the suspect.

"No arrests have been made in connection at present and it is believed to be an isolated incident and poses no wider threat to the public.”
