Two men have been shot in a brazen targeted attack inside a hair salon in Sydney's inner west as police hunt for the attacker.
Emergency services were called to a hairdresser on Marrickville Road, Marrickville after reports of multiple shots fired at 1.50pm on Friday.
Officers found two men suffering gunshot wounds inside the shop, about 100 metres from a police station.
Both were treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital, police said.
"One male 33 years of age was shot in the buttocks area," Superintendent Despa Fitzgerald told reporters on Friday.
"The other male 20 years of age was shot in the chest."
The 20-year-old is in a serious but stable condition while the 33-year-old man is believed to be in a stable condition.
Both are known to police, Supt Fitzgerald said.
"It is very brazen and that's why we believe it's obviously a targeted attack," she added.
The scene has been cordoned off to allow examination by specialist forensic officers while a police helicopter canvassed the area.
Officers were seen examining the footpath, shrubbery and bins at the scene of the busy thoroughfare.
"Local detectives have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and will be assisted by specialist detectives as required," a police statement said.
Police are examining whether two vehicles that were set ablaze on Norwood Lane in Marrickville and Hercules Street in Dulwich Hill were linked to the shooting.
A Mitsubishi Triton was dumped in Dulwich Hill and a silver Toyota Camry in Marrickville.
Supt Fitzgerald said police will allege one of the vehicles - the Toyota Camry - was used as a getaway car.
