Police hunt for former dealer who beat up his ex girlfriend

A former drug dealer who assaulted his ex-girlfriend is wanted by police again.

Michael Anthony Smith went to prison in 2019 for assault offences and was released on licence. However after breaking his licence conditions, he is now wanted on recall back to jail by Merseyside police.

It has been reported that the 26-year-old, who has links to Birkenhead and Liverpool areas, including Sefton Park, previously denied being a drug dealer but changed his plea before his trial got underway back in 2018. He was sentenced to 19 months, with the court hearing Smith had already admitted a charge of burglary and a series of domestic abuse charges against a former girlfriend which he was previously jailed for.

The court heard police had visited a house on the Pencraig estate, in Llangefni, Anglesey on the evening of April 2, 2018 and found four men in a bedroom at the property. Richard Edwards, prosecuting, said Smith was among the men - he was searched and £1,600 in cash and two mobile phones were seized.

He said text messages found on one of the phones were indicative of someone being involved in the supply of illegal drugs. Mr Edwards added Smith had been in a relationship with a woman and had been abusive and violent towards her on several occasions.

After being arrested and charged he had tried to contact her through friends and had sought to get her to drop her complaints. In addition to the jail term the judge imposed a seven year Restraining Order banning Smith from contacting the woman by any means.

Police are now appealing for help in finding Smith, who is described as around 5ft, 5in tall with long black hair and blue eyes. He speaks with a Liverpool accent.

If you see Smith or have any information on his whereabouts contact Merseyside police's social media desk on Twitter @MerpolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with reference 22000408778.
