UK police have been passed on information to check addresses across the country for poison which is reportedly linked to suicides.
Canadian Kenneth Law, 57, has been arrested in Ontario and is facing two counts of counselling and aiding suicide after allegedly selling a lethal substance to people across the world online.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) has received information from Canada via Interpol with details of possible UK users of the website which it has passed on to police forces.
This will enable officers to carry out “safe and well checks” on the addresses.
The NCA said: “We are in contact with our Canadian counterparts regarding this matter and liaising with local police as appropriate.”
Peel Regional Police in Canada said it conducted a month-long investigation following the sudden death of a woman who consumed the substance allegedly bought from an online company owned by Law.
The move comes after an investigation by The Times alleged the poison has caused at least four deaths in the UK.
Law is due to appear in court on May 9.
