Police find machetes in raid on 'rowdy' house party after guests seen taking drugs and urinating in street

Police found a lock knife and two machetes after officers raided a 'rowdy' party where people were seen urinating in the street and taking drugs, the Manchester Evening News understands.

Increased stop and search powers were put in place in Prestwich on Friday following the party at rental property. Officers were called to the address on Sheepfoot Lane at approximately 2:30am on Friday morning after complaints of guests blocking the road, smoking drugs, and "causing a nuisance".

It is understood that at least four searches took place, but nothing was seized and the extended search power has now ended.

But neighbours say it’s far from the first time a party at the site has caused them trouble, with rowdy parties taking place there almost every weekend - and sometimes in the week.

Anthony Connaughton lives just around the corner from the property and can see its terrace from his bedroom window. He told the M.E.N that he saw girls urinating on the street and “rowdy” revellers playing loud music and blocking the road before the police came early on Friday morning.

“You’d understand a bit more if it was a weekend, but this was a Thursday night,” he said. “People are really fed up. What about people who have kids around here?”

He said he found three bags of cannabis on the road by his van when he left for work the next morning, and thinks they were possibly dropped by party-goers running away from the police.

“Young children live on this road,” he said. “If I hadn't found them, they could’ve been picked up by anyone.”

His neighbour John Duffy said he was also often kept awake by “real loud music, laughter and shouting” coming from the property - and not just on the weekend. He told the M.E.N that in mid-July, he’d been kept awake until 4am on a Monday morning by noise from the house.

“You can hear it as clear as day,” he said. “It’s one thing it happening on a Saturday, but in the week people have to get up for work.

“A lot of people are really annoyed about it. The owner needs to do something about it.”

The property, which is advertised online as a ‘stylish stay’, boasts a private indoor pool and spa bath, a terrace and garden, and three bedrooms. Residents told the M.E.N it is often booked out for hen and stag parties.

The property is in a residential area next to Heaton Park (ASP)

Potash lives with her husband and two young children in a property which backs onto the house. She has had to shut her children’s windows all day and all night, even in the summer heat, to try and protect them from the noise.

“It’s just too noisy,” she told the M.EN. “It’s definitely an ongoing issue. I don’t take note, but it probably happens once a week.” She said she was kept awake until the early hours of the morning on Thursday due to the party.

“On a Thursday night, it’s ridiculous,” she said. “We’ve only been here a year, but it is definitely worse in the summer.”

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
