Police have confirmed they still wish to speak to the husband of a Melbourne woman who was killed and her body dumped in a wheelie bin.
The body of 35-year-old Point Cook woman Chaithanya “Swetha” Madhagani were discovered in Buckley, south-west of Geelong, at about noon on Saturday.
A Victoria police spokesperson said on Thursday morning that investigators were still hoping to speak to the woman’s 38-year-old husband, who was overseas.
“Due to the seriousness of the matter, there is much we unfortunately cannot comment on as we don’t want to jeopardise the ongoing investigation,” she said.
“This includes information about any ongoing enquiries or liaison with any other agencies here in Australia or internationally, or any liaison with the victim’s family.”
It is understood her husband travelled to India and left their son Arya, 3, with Swetha’s parents.
On Monday, Praveen Kumar Thopucherla, the executive chairperson of the Melbourne Telangana Forum that runs cultural events to celebrate the state in southern India, said her death was “an alarm” for the close-knit community.
“It is very shocking, the community is traumatised,” he said.
“She was very active and used to participate in our community events … she was very energetic.
“Losing her is like losing my own family member because it is a very small community.”
