A Canberra teenager has been charged with the shooting murder of Glenn Walewicz, after a 12-month police investigation.

Mr Walewicz, 48, died after being shot once at the front door of his home in Phillip in Canberra's south in June last year.

Police yesterday arrested an 18-year-old Page man and charged him with murder.

He briefly faced the ACT Children's Court this morning, as he was aged 17 at the time of the murder.

He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance, due later this month.

The arrest comes after police last week charged Reatile Ncube, 19, with accessory after the fact to murder.

Mr Ncube faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday where he was remanded in custody

'Good old-fashioned police work' led to arrests

Detective Inspector Mark Steel said police were still trying to determine a motive for the murder, and it could have been a case of mistaken identity.

"Police believe the 19-year-old and the 18-year-old were not known to Mr Walewicz," he said.

Detective Inspector Steel said the case had been "a real whodunnit" with "very little information" initially forthcoming.

"[It's involved] hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, analysis of phone coverage and also speaking to numerous witnesses.

"This hasn't been an easy investigation, it's 12 months in duration thus far, and it's certainly testament to the tenacity and dedication of all members involved, from those homicide detectives through to our support areas."

Police appeal for help to find murder weapon

Detective Inspector Steel said he expected further arrests would be made and he appealed to the public for further information.

"We are yet to recover the firearm," he said.

"So, we're appealing for those people to come to us or contact Crime Stoppers, and they can do so anonymously."

Detective Inspector Steel said he hoped the arrests would "provide some comfort" to Mr Walewicz' relatives.

"Knowing that homicide detectives are still on the go with this 12 months down the track," he said.
