Police catch yet MORE people waiting on hard shoulder of M56 to avoid Manchester airport parking

Traffic police have been catching more drivers who have been waiting on the hard shoulder of the M56 to avoid parking at Manchester Airport. Greater Manchester Police announced they had issued traffic offence reports (TORs) to three more drivers on Wednesday.

Drivers parking up along the hard shoulder of the busy motorway have become familiar scenes in recent months, with many waiting along the carriageway to pick up or drop off people travelling from Manchester Airport to avoid paying car parking fees.

North West Motorway Police have tweeted numerous incidents in recent months - previously warning: "The hard shoulder is not a safe place to be waiting for those coming off flights and when caught it is much more expensive than the airport charges!"

Sharing the news on Wednesday (September 7), GMP Traffic announced three more drivers had been issued with TORs after being spotted waiting in the hard shoulder of the motorway.

They wrote: "Please use the designated areas when dropping off or picking up at the Airport. DO NOT park on the hard shoulder of the M56 like these drivers."

Currently, drivers picking up or dropping off from the airport have to pull into the designated areas. All passengers can use the free drop off area located in JetParks1 where they can take a short shuttle ride to the terminals.

Alternatively, people can choose to be dropped off directly outside the terminals and train station at a charge of £5 for five minutes or £6 for ten minutes. For those being picked up, drivers can park in either a multi-storey car park at Terminal 3, or the short stay car park at Terminal One. These cost £6 for 30 minutes.
