Police Catch Wanted Colorado Man Who Tried to Escape By Jumping in a Lake: 'You're Going to Jail Tired and Wet'

A Colorado man's efforts to evade arrest took him over a fence and into a body of water before he ended up cuffed and damp in the backseat of a police car.

A tip regarding a man with warrants for his arrest led Wheat Ridge police officers to a local apartment complex on Sept. 12. With information from a local bounty hunter, law enforcement was able to identify the suspect and proceeded to knock on the door of the apartment where he was believed to be.

While outside the door, officers witnessed a man matching the suspect's description running from the back door and jumping a fence to flee the scene.

While authorities searched the area, a citizen approached to report a dripping wet man matching the suspect's description walking on a nearby street.

Body-cam video posted on the Wheat Ridge Police Department's Facebook page gave an inside look at the apprehension of the soaked suspect.

"Running and swimming away from us just means you're going to jail tired and wet," police wrote in a social media post detailing the pursuit and arrest.

The spontaneous swimmer is now jailed on his two warrants and has been issued a summons for obstruction of a police officer.
