The police were called in to rescue hundreds of TUI passengers "abandoned" on an airport runway for three hours.

Holidaymakers were left stranded on the tarmac at Manchester Airport for three hours before being escorted off the plane.

The aircraft bound for Tenerife on May 29 was hit by an initial delay, before hundreds of families were then stuck on board for more than three hours due to a staff shortage, Manchester Evening News reports.
