A naked man was spotted by drivers walking near the A19 on Friday afternoon.
One witness reported having seen a man "completely naked, with not a stitch on except a balaclava". This was at about 2.40pm, the witness said. Northumbria Police confirmed the force had received a report of concern for a naked man, but had not been able to locate him.
The witness told ChronicleLive how the man seen appeared to "shimmy down" the concrete pillars of the bridge above the A19's southbound carriageway, near to where the road meets the A183 near Pennywell.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 3pm today police received a report of concern for a man on the A19 southbound. It was reported a naked man was walking near the junction with the A183.
"Police attended the scene to locate the man and check on his welfare, but he had already left the area."
