Police called as Glasgow Michelin-Star restaurant 'targeted in animal rights sit-in'

Police were called to a Michelin-Star restaurant in Glasgow last night amid claims that animal rights activists launched a protest over the 'lack' of vegan options on the menu.

Members of Animal Rising group are accused of causing a disturbance at Cail Bruich by occupying tables meant for customers holding banners showing conditions inside some UK farms.

It is understood that seven people were involved in the incident at the Great Western road venue, the Daily Record reports.

Other luxury restaurants in Southampton, Bristol, Birmingham, Lancaster, and London were also been the location of "sit-ins" by supporters of Animal Rising last night including Salt Bae's flagship London restaurant that serves steak coated in gold costing upwards of £700 each.

The Cail Bruich incident comes just weeks after 25 members of the same group tried to interrupt the Scottish Grand National at Ayr Racecourse, but their efforts were thwarted when police launched a massive security operation following a similar stunt at the Aintree Grand National.

Protestor Marshall, 25, said: "How we currently treat intelligent, feeling animals and our beautiful countryside is not reflective of who we want to be as a society. We can have a safe, secure food system that feeds everyone without the need to harm animals or devastate nature."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.55pm on Saturday, May 20 officers were called to a business address on Great Western Road, Glasgow following reports of a peaceful protest within.

“The group were given advice and asked to leave the premises. When they refused, five people were arrested and removed.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
