Police called after mum with buggy 'screamed at' and accused of jumping bus queue

A mum has claimed she was "screamed" at and sworn at after she tried getting on her bus at an earlier stop than usual, so that she'd have room to bring her buggy onboard before the bus was filled with other parents. The woman said she went to pick up her child from a child minder, but arrived at a bus stop to see two women also waiting with buggies.

She said on Mumsnet: "Knowing that the driver wouldn’t let three of us on, I walked round the corner to the previous stop and got on there. When it arrived at the next stop, sure enough only one mum was allowed on - the other was told to wait 30 minutes for the next bus."

At this point, though, the mum says said things turned nasty. She claims to have been "screamed at and called a c**t and a queue jumper" for tactically getting on the bus early, and said that one mum tried to shove her off the bus.

She added: "I don’t think I did anything wrong, nor did the police when they turned up after being called by the driver. What the f*** is wrong with people?"

Other Mumsnet users weren't sure what to make of the incident. The mum posted on the "Am I being unreasonable" forum, and lots of users were quick to say that she was being perfectly reasonable.

One said: "In my opinion you just did the clever thing, tough luck to the other one!" Another added: "I don't think you were unreasonable. Depending on the age of my child though, if I was in your shoes, I'd have probably used the time on the bus to fold down the pushchair to make room for her to get on too."

Another added to this comment: "You acted knowing that you would be taking the place of someone who had been waiting longer than you. Technically you didn't break any rules, but you were selfish and sneaky in your actions. If your pushchair was foldable then you could have folded it, put it in the bag bit and held your child."

Some, though, called her "really selfish," and said she was doing a "sh***y thing," even if the other mum's reaction was "over the top." One solemnly pointed out: "Did you not know Holly & Phil’s careers have been RUINED by queue jumping, and that was only allegedly. No good will come of this."
