Police Baffled as They Probe How Cornhole Player with No Arms or Legs Allegedly Shot Man Dead

A professional cornhole player from Maryland who is a quadruple amputee has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man. The case has drawn national attention because investigators have not yet explained how the suspect allegedly fired a weapon and drove a vehicle.

Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata, Maryland, was arrested in Charlottesville, Virginia, after the death of Bradrick Michael Wells, 27. According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened on the night of 22 March during an argument inside a vehicle in La Plata, before Wells's body was later found on Newport Church Road in nearby Charlotte Hall.

Police say Webber now faces first-degree murder, second-degree murder and related charges. He was arrested in Virginia as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition to Charles County, where the case will proceed. Investigators have said there is no evidence at this stage that anyone else was involved in the shooting. Court records show he also faces firearm-related charges in the case.

What Police Say Happened

The Charles County Sheriff's Office said witnesses told investigators that Webber was driving with three other people in the car when an argument broke out between him and Wells, who was in the front passenger seat. Witnesses alleged that Webber then shot Wells twice in the head while the vehicle was still in motion.

According to charging documents cited by local media, Webber then pulled over and asked the two back-seat passengers to help remove Wells from the car. They refused, got out and flagged down a police officer, while Webber allegedly drove away with Wells still inside the vehicle. A resident later found Wells's body on the side of Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall shortly after midnight on 23 March.

Quadruple-Amputee Cornhole Player

The case has received unusual attention because Webber is a well-known competitor in the American Cornhole League and has lived as a quadruple amputee since infancy after a severe infection. His athletic profile has made the allegations especially notable, but police have said the criminal investigation is centred on the evidence in the shooting itself.

Authorities have also acknowledged how Webber was able to operate both a firearm and a vehicle. Fox 5 DC reported that investigators have not yet publicly explained that aspect of the case, while the sheriff's office said there is currently no evidence suggesting anyone else was involved and that detectives believe he acted alone.

Mechanics of the Shooting

Police have not publicly detailed the mechanics of the shooting, including how the weapon was handled or how the vehicle was being operated at the time. That means one of the most heavily discussed elements of the case remains unresolved in public reporting.

For now, the established facts are narrower: investigators say a fatal shooting followed an argument inside a car, two witnesses identified Webber as the gunman, and he was later located at a hospital in Virginia before being arrested. The case is now expected to move forward in Maryland through extradition and formal court proceedings.
