Man, in 20s, found dead at Royal Liverpool Hospital with police on scene

A man in his 20s has been found dead inside a Liverpool hospital, sparking a police investigation.

Officers rushed to the Royal Liverpool Hospital on West Derby Street at 8.56pm on Friday night following reports of concern for the safety of a man inside the premises, reported the Liverpool Echo.

This morning Merseyside Police said they are working to formally identify the man.

Several police vehicles, including patrol cars and vans have been parked at the entrance to the hospital.

The man, in his 20s, received immediate treatment at the scene before being pronounced dead.

Police have said enquiries into the incident are ongoing and the man's next of kin have been informed.

An investigation is underway in the area to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that officers are currently at the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital on Mount Vernon Street this evening, Friday 18 November, following reports of concern for the safety of a man inside the premises.

"The man in his 20s received immediate treatment at the scene but it was later confirmed by emergency services that he sadly passed away.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and we are in the process of formally identifying the man and informing his next of kin.

"An investigation is ongoing in the area to establish the circumstances and a scene is currently in place at the hospital."

Many people quickly took to social media to offer their condolences.

One person wrote on Facebook: “Thinking of all his family and friends, so young RIP young man.”

Another agreed: “So young, so sad.”

There were other similar comments.

A person said: "In my prayers God Bless him. RIP. Thoughts and Condolences to his family and friends."

One post read: "Deepest condolences to his family and friends, fly high with the angels young man."

The new Royal Liverpool Hospital opened last month in a gradual 24-day move from the previous location where staff, patients and services were moved across.

It is five years after it was supposed to open with work beginning in 2014 before it was hit by a series of delays.
