Police have asked drivers to share that the speed limit on a West Bridgford has changed after a number of motorists they stopped claimed they weren't aware of the change. The speed limit on Radcliffe Road changed from 40mph to 30mph in early 2022, but Nottinghamshire Police said it had received complaints of motorists speeding well over the limit.
Officers conducted speeding operations where the majority of motorists were within the ‘new’ speed limit. But said some were driving well over the 30mph speed limit.
Sergeant Sarah Merrall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said a number of motorists had said that they believed it was 40mph and were unaware of the speed limit change.

As a part of a separate speeding and traffic operation, officers also took to Central Avenue, West Bridgford where they received reports that motorists repeatedly ignored traffic restrictions. A total of 12 vehicles were stopped and given advice about the restrictions, which include the road being prohibited to traffic between 7am-7pm.
Sgt Merall said: “Both these operations involved educating drivers after concerns were raised to us about issues at these locations. I’d like to thank the motorists we spoke to for their cooperation.
“We regularly receive information from local residents about the wide range of issues that affect their lives and will always do our best to tackle the concerns that are most important to them.
“Speeding and motoring offences are understandably issues that residents are concerned about, and I would like to reassure people that officers take them seriously.”
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: “Operation Reacher have been tasked with addressing the issue of speeding on Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford following a change of speed limit from 40mph to 30mph.
“This is not a new speed limit, it changed early 2022, however we have received numerous complaints of vehicles travelling well over the speed limit.
“As requested, as conducted a speed check on the road and found the vast majority of drivers were adhering to the 'new' speed limits, however we found a large amount travelling well over the 30mph speed limit. Where possible we offered educational advice on the dangers of speeding but those found to be significantly over the limit were report to court for the offence.
“Several motorists stated that they genuinely believed it was a 40mph and were unaware of the change. This change was well publicised back in 2022 but can we please ask, if you travel on this road to adhere to the speed limit and spread the message to friends and family.”
