TIRUPATI: The Kadapa district police wing have arrested six persons in connection with a fake loan app case on Thursday.
YSR district SP KKN Anburajan told reporters that Rahul Razak from West Bengal and five of his other accomplices were arrested by the police and shifted to Kadapa on a PT warrant.
The district police freezed 70 suspected bank accounts linked to the accused in the fake loan app.
The police have identified that the gang carried out Rs.2.5 crore worth transactions through the fake loan app.
On 20.02.2023, the Vontimitta police received a complaint from 34 year old Bandaru Kalpana, that she became a victim of a fake loan app "Large Taka" through which she initially obtained a personal loan of Rs. 10000 due to an emergency.
It was found during the investigation that the online miscreants obtained 8 more loans by misusing her credentials.
Later, Kalpana was harassed for repayment of the loans which she never availed. The online miscreants threatened Kalpana that her morphed obscene pictures would be circulated among her friends and relatives if she failed to repay the loans.
After a detailed investigation, the YSR district police wing arrested the key accused in the case Rahul Razak and his other accomplices.
Further police investigation revealed that the gang involved in 3 cases registered against them in Telangana and were wanted in connection with 15 NCRP petitions filed across the country.
KKN Anburajan appreciated the cyber crime team and the Vontimitta police for arresting the accused involved in the fake loan app case.
In another case, the Kadapa district police wing also recovered 189 stolen and lost mobile phones worth approximately Rs 45 lakh on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters after launching the mega mobile mela during which the recovered mobile phones were handed over back to the rightful owners, YSR district SP KKN Anburajan said that the district police wing have so far recovered a total of 669 mobile phones worth approximately Rs.1.75 crore.
He appreciated the cyber technical team for their efforts in recovering the stolen or lost mobile phones since the inception of the missing mobiles tracking system (MMTS).
