Police have appealed for a brave passer-by who stepped in to stop a woman being mugged to come forward. The unknown man came to the victim's aid after the mugger tried to snatch her bag.
The attempted robbery took place on Bond Street on the outskirts of Leigh town centre at about 7.30pm on Monday, May 8. The suspect is described as a man in his 40s.

In a post on Facebook GMP Leigh said: "A male offender - aged approximately in his 40s - attempted to steal a woman's handbag but was prevented from doing so by an unknown member of the public who intervened. Police are now appealing for the unknown member of the public to make themselves known as it is believed they have important information about this case."
