Police are appealing for witnesses after a huge fire ripped through a Scots high street and devastated businesses.
Remnants of the Poundstretcher in Leven, Fife, show the shop left as a burnt shell in the aftermath of the blaze that took hold at around 2am on Tuesday morning (November 8) on High Street.
Other surrounding businesses have also been severely damaged.
The incident sparked a hefty emergency response with dozens of firefighters and more than 15 appliances fighting the inferno until the early hours of the morning. First responders and police were also called to the scene.
High Street shut down as well as part of the Esplanade for a number of hours during the day while the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service put out the fire. Non one was injured in the fire.
On Wednesday evening, police enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
Detective Inspector Karen Muirhead said: “Poundstetchers and other local businesses have been significantly affected by this fire and our enquiries are ongoing to establish how the fire started.
"It would appear the alarm has been raised around 2am and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended.
"We would be keen to speak with anyone who was in the area between 11pm and 2am as they may have witnessed something which may assist the enquiry.
"I am also appealing to anyone who has any information which may assist us to get in touch.”
Harrowing images shared on social media, show the aftermath of the fire on Poundstrecther as well businesses roundabout, including Jackson & Company solicitors and Stuart's Butchers.
The devastating impact on the premises, now a hollow wreck, is clear to see. Blackened, crumbling debris spills out on to the street, while the roof appears to have completely caved in and the contents of the building destroyed.
A cordon has also been erected around the danger zone and Fife Council has confirmed that Bank Street, Branch Street, High Street, Seagate, South Street, Viewforth Place, Forth Street and School Wynd remain closed until further notice as a result.
