Police appeal for witnesses after man left with serious head injuries in assault in Newcastle city centre

Police are appealing to witnesses to come forward after a man suffered serious head injuries in an assault outside a Newcastle city centre bar.

Officers received a report that just before 11.30pm on Easter Sunday April 9 an altercation had taken place outside Wafi Lounge on Clayton Street West. Two men were reported to have been punched by another two men, both wearing dark clothing, who then fled the scene on foot.

Both victims were taken to hospital for treatment, where one of the men was found to have suffered serious head injuries. He remains in hospital almost two months on in a serious but stable condition.

The other victim suffered minor injuries and was later discharged. Officers are now calling for any witnesses to the incident to contact them.

The area was busy at the time and any information could assist officers in their enquiries. Northumbria Police have advised witnesses to use the "Tell Us Something" page on their website or call 101, quoting crime number 044007L/23.
