A collision between a bus and a teenage cyclist on the Coast Road on the way out of Newcastle on Tuesday left the teenager seriously injured.
Northumbria Police are now appealing for witnesses to the road traffic collision, which took place at 7.35pm on the Coast Road eastbound at the junction with Benfield Road. The boy, 16, has been taken to hospital with "serious, life-threatening" injuries - and remains in a critical condition, the police said.
The driver of the bus is assisting officers with their enquiries and the road was closed for about four hours before re-opening to traffic.
