Police appeal as huge cordon set up after stabbing in Clifton street

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in a residential street in Clifton. Officers were called to reports of a fight in Woodsford Grove just after 6.30pm on Sunday, November 27.

The victim, a man in his 20s, suffered stab wounds and was taken to the hospital for treatment, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Cordons remain in place in the Woodsford Grove and Rivergreen areas and there is no access to the road from the Ellerby Avenue end to Woodsford Grove and Woodford, according to neighbours in the area.

Detective Inspector Chris Berryman, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Whilst this incident is naturally a concern for the local community, we do believe this was an isolated incident and those involved were likely known to one another. We are working hard to understand exactly what happened during this incident and would like to speak with any additional witnesses who have not already spoken to us.

“I want to urge anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has any knowledge or CCTV footage to please get in touch as quickly as possible.” Residents in the area have spoken out about their shock over the cordon, which stretched across the street.

Teacher Louise Bateman, of Hucknall, said: “I think it is good to see such a large police presence. There are so many students passing through as well so it is important to keep people here safe.”

The 46-year-old added: “Police are stretched as it is so it is important to protect communities when something like this happens in their area. But I don’t feel in danger here.”

NTU student, Marek Czeshowski, 20, said it is like a "a dark cloud is hanging over Clifton". He said: “I am disturbed really to hear about another incident happening here.”

Students heading to the Clifton campus have to walk through Rivergreen. He added: “I am just going to walk around.”

Walking through the estate on his way home, Charles Baddeley, 83, of Silverdale, said: “I am bit concerned because this is quite a big cordon. It is a bit worrying when there are too many incidents happening in one place.”

“It seems like there’s one incident after another. It can happen anywhere at the end of the day but you don’t want too many in one place.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 643 of 27 November 2022. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
