Police and paramedics scrambled to a residential road to respond to a medical emergency.
Emergency workers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) arrived on Gaskell Street this afternoon. Images from Manchester Evening News photographers show police tape and a cop van in attendance.
However, that cordon was not in place to protect evidence, GMP has now confirmed. It also added that rumours on social media of a ‘stabbing’ were untrue.
“It’s not a stabbing,” a spokesperson for the force confirmed. “A woman has just been taken to hospital for further treatment and NWAS are dealing [with the incident].
“It’s looking like a medical emergency. There is a scene in place just to give the emergency services some space, rather than for it to preserve the scene.”
Earlier in the day, rumours on social media speculated that a woman had been attacked. Images shared online showed an air ambulance on nearby parkland, claiming a woman had been stabbed on the Rochdale Canal towpath. However, cops have since confirmed that the Gaskell Street incident was a medical emergency only.
The North West Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
