Police and an air ambulance scrambled to a busy main road in Oldham on Tuesday evening amid reports of a young girl being hit by a car. Abbey Hills Road was closed off between Warren Lane and Manor Road shortly after 6pm following the collision.
The Manchester Evening News understands that a girl was struck by a vehicle close to a crossing, with police being called to the scene shortly after 6pm. Onlookers reported seeing the girl lying in the road, as people frantically flocked around to try and help.
A black Mercedes with a slightly dented bonnet was pictured within the cordon, with brake tyre marks also seen on the road. Greater Manchester Police have not yet confirmed further details of the incident.

A resident of Abbey Hills Road, who lived just feet away from where the incident happened on Tuesday, said the wide main road is 'dangerous', with many drivers often speeding over the limit, adding that she had to swerve out of the way of a child just a day before. It is not yet known how the collision occurred or the nature of injuries sustained by the girl.
"Drivers often go really fast down here because it’s such a wide road. I had to swerve yesterday because a young child ran out," she told the MEN.
In the aftermath, an air ambulance also landed on a grassed area behind terraced homes on Abbey Hills Road. However, it is understood the victim was taken to hospital by road in an ambulance, after she was wheeled in on a stretcher.
Residents spoke of how crowds of people circled around the victim after the collision. One man said: "It was pretty hectic. It’s a small community and everyone knows each other round here. Everyone was running around trying to help."
Another added: "It was so manic, there were so many people running around. It took the air ambulance quite a while before it landed, and she was taken away in an ambulance."
The extent of the injuries sustained by the girl has not yet been disclosed. The MEN has contacted Greater Manchester Police for further information on the incident.
