Pole dancer impresses fans with her unique take on the Cha Cha Slide

A pole dancer has left her fans seriously impressed after performing her own unique version of the Cha Cha Slide - which she did completely upside down.

Julie Carver, 39, became a viral sensation after she posted the video of herself doing the steps to the hit song - but in the clip something doesn't look quite right.

Her feet are normal, doing the famous dance steps, but her hair is standing completely on end yet is swaying as she moves.

That's because Julie, from Ontario, Canada, is performing the whole thing upside down, and is defying gravity by holding herself in position with the pole.

Julie said: "My viral video is the first time I actually tried putting my feet flat against the ceiling and dancing to the beat!

"It is definitely one of my favourite tricks, I like that there are variations to it and that it helps build my strength.

"When I pole in public, people are usually shocked at how pretty it is or how much strength it takes.

"I would love for people to know that anyone can do pole, any age, gender, shape or size. You don’t need to be strong or flexible."

Julie started pole fitness five years ago when she was working as a professional belly dancer and was curious about giving it a try.

She said: "I had been wanting to try pole for a while but was worried I didn’t have enough upper body strength.

"I finally signed up to a session on a whim the night before it started.

"I’m not a gym person, so I love that I get a workout out of it while also having fun and being creative.

"I’m always learning something new on the pole, it never stops!"

After two years she mastered the move called 'the pencil' where a dancer will hold themselves upside down completely straight with pointed toes.

She can hold this position for a full 30 seconds, whereas in an easier one she can be upside down for up to a minute.

Julie continued: "I’m so used to doing this trick that I don’t notice how it feels!

"There is some pressure on the shoulders if done for too long, and it does require some strength and balance.

"A lot of people ask if I get dizzy upside down but I don’t."

She now trains three times a week, and posts videos of her moves on her TikTok account, @polefitjulie.

On April 6, a video of her dancing with her feet flat on the ceiling to DJ Casper's Cha Cha Slide went viral and racked up over 39 million views.

"I was shocked and still am," she said.

"The comments on it have also been very interesting - some are amazed at the strength, and some ask how I did it and do not think it’s real.

"Let me tell you that it’s very real!"
