We've come a long way since the days of farm-equipment-adjacent UTVs. Long ago, they were utilitarian, basic, and just about getting to and from your barn, field, pasture, or around on a worksite. Now, they're basically miniature trophy trucks that you can buy from a dealership.
They're fast as hell, tough as nails, and can make you look like an absolute hero in the eyes of your passengers as you speed through the desert whoops or carve great big sand dunes. But all of that wouldn't be possible if these machines didn't have suspension setups that allowed for those antics.
Fox is known the world over for its suspension, and its stranglehold on the UTV market is one that should be studied sometime in the future. But the off-road brand is one to never rest on its laurels, and neither is Polaris, as the near-constant improvement of its RZR platform illustrates. And the two have a habit of working together on seriously game-changing technology.
Case in point, Fox's Dynamix DVS suspension on the new RZR Pro R Ultra, which just might be smarter than you.
The video above does a great job at explaining how the system works, but my biggest takeaway is that the system adjusts a host of parameters 200-times a second in response to driver inputs, as well as vehicle systems and monitors, i.e., dampening force, rebound, etc. Basically, it's taking real-time data, compressing that information into usable changes to the Dynamix DVS shocks and sway bars, and then doling it out to the suspension before you ever perceive something's changed.
That's not just fast, that's lightning, and when you're going 100 mph over the desert, hitting rocks, missing ruts, changing direction, or trying to steer clear of the invasive horses and burros out West, that could be the difference between a crash or not, as well as winning a race like the Mint 400 or King of the Hammers.
It could also be the difference between your friends and relatives praising your driving capabilities or them laughing at you after you rolled the UTV.
For those nerds like myself, however, the ones who love getting into the technical wizardry of the Dynamix DVS system, how it works, how it adapts, and how it ups the ante for all go-fast UTVs on the market, the video is worth your time. It explains everything, and condenses it into digestible chunks so even the most technical aspects of the suspension system makes sense. Check it out and then count your pennies in your bank accounts, as the RZR Pro R Ultra ain't exactly cheap.
