Poland manager makes Liverpool transfer request after Robert Lewandowski comments

Poland national team manager has joked he would like to see Robert Lewandowski sign for Liverpool this summer after the prolific striker expressed his desire to leave Bayern Munich.

Lewandowski has been a huge success since joining the German giants in 2014, scoring 344 goals in 375 games during his eight-year stay and winning a staggering 19 major honours at the club. His time at Bayern could soon be coming to an end, however, as he continues to push for an exit away from Bayern.

It has been reported that the 33-year-old wishes to join Barcelona and begin a new chapter of his career, though his current employers appear determined for him to see out the final year of his contract before parting ways. Speaking at a press conference yesterday afternoon ahead of Poland's upcoming Nations League game with Wales, Lewandowski told reporters: "One thing is certain today, my story with Bayern is over. After everything that has happened in recent months, I cannot imagine further good co-operation. I realise a transfer will be the best solution for both sides."

Poland's manager Czeslaw Michniewicz then offered his opinion on where the prolific forward should up next season, stating: “I’d like to see Lewandowski in Liverpool since I'm a supporter of the club." If this were to ever become a reality, it would see the Bayern marksman reunited with his former coach.

Jurgen Klopp managed Lewandowski during the duo's Borussia Dortmund days, winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles together and reaching the final of the Champions League in 2013. The Liverpool boss is certainly an admirer of the Polish goal machine, made clear by the fact he described Lewandowski as the best player he had worked with during an interview with Bild last March.

"It actually won't be fair to say that about any other player except Lewy," explained Klopp. "What he has made out of his potential, how he pushed himself to become the player he is today, that's extraordinary."
