Poland's security officials have reported the detention of a 41-year-old man from Russia who illegally crossed into the country from Belarus. The Border Guard has confirmed that the individual is a 'deserter' from the Russian military. Deputy Interior Minister Czeslaw Mroczek stated that authorities are currently investigating whether the man was attempting to escape the conflict in Russia or if he was on a covert mission for the Russian government within the European Union.
Mroczek emphasized the importance of determining the detainee's intentions, raising concerns about potential involvement with Russian intelligence services. Reports indicate that the man was unarmed and dressed in civilian attire, but was found in possession of a written contract with the Russian army detailing his participation in activities related to Russia's military actions against Ukraine.
The incident occurred during a meeting between Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and security officials to address alleged Russian influences in Poland and its leadership. This development follows the recent defection of a Polish judge to Belarus, which Tusk condemned as 'high treason.'
