Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have announced that Pokemon Pokopia sold 2.2 million copies in its first four days, with the Switch 2 exclusive already ranking among the top-selling spin-offs for the series.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the best-selling games of all time, and even if it's not the best-selling Switch game ever, it's one of the five most successful Nintendo games of all time. Meanwhile, Pokemon is one of, if not the most successful media franchise ever, so merging the two is a bit of a no-brainer, and throw a bit of the best-selling game of all-time, Minecraft, in there, and you've got a recipe for success. And turns out that's exactly what happened, as reports of physical copies of the game being extremely hard to find are plentiful.
Nintendo released a statement today – the one-week anniversary of Pokopia's release – on its website announcing that within the first four days of its release, Pokopia has sold 2.2 million copies on Nintendo Switch 2, with one million of those being from Japan alone. Based on the previous info released by Nintendo, that places it as the console's fourth highest-selling game to date, but that number will surely have jumped up by the time Nintendo releases its next batch of financial results, and I wouldn't be shocked if it ends up ahead of Donkey Kong Bananza as the console's second-best-selling game.
Serebii owner Joe Merrick put this number into perspective, showing that Pokopia is already one of the most successful Pokemon spin-offs ever, beating out the lifetime sales of the likes of Pokemon XD, Pokken Tournament, and a number of the Mystery Dungeon titles. Although, given this hot start, it feels almost guaranteed that it'll end up at the top of the pile, as it only needs to sell just over 3.65 million more to beat Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue Rescue Team.
