'Pokémon Winds and Waves' Fans Debate Which Tropical Fruit Should Become a New Pokémon

A "Pokémon" fan has started a lively discussion on Reddit after asking a simple but surprisingly creative question: Which fruit would fans like to see become a Pokémon in "Winds and Waves?"

The options included banana, durian, rambutan, papaya, coconut, and dragon fruit. The question quickly inspired fans to imagine new Pokémon designs, unique typings, evolutionary lines, and even regional variants based on some of the world's most recognizable tropical fruits.

Fans Want a Dedicated Banana Pokémon

Bananas quickly became one of the most discussed choices, although one Reddit user noted that Tropius already has a strong connection to the fruit.

The Grass/Flying-type Pokémon is known for its banana-like fruit growing around its neck, leading some fans to argue that the concept has already been explored.

Others, however, pointed out that a Pokémon directly based on the banana itself could still work. One fan suggested creating a baby Pokémon that could eventually evolve into Tropius, imagining a smaller banana-themed dinosaur as part of the evolutionary family.

Another idea involved a banana-inspired snake or dragon, proving that there are plenty of creative directions for a dedicated banana Pokémon.

Dragon Fruit Pokémon Gets Fans Excited

Dragon fruit also received plenty of support, with several fans imagining a Grass/Dragon-type creature inspired by the brightly colored fruit. One particularly interesting concept compared the idea to Applin, suggesting that a tiny dragon could hide inside the dragon fruit.

Another fan proposed a Pokémon that actually eats dragon fruit, creating a playful connection between the creature and its name. Other suggestions included a Bug/Dragon typing or even a regional variant of Applin based on the tropical fruit.

However, some fans were less enthusiastic about the idea of another fruit-based Grass/Dragon Pokémon. They argued that the Applin family has already explored the concept of fruit-inspired creatures extensively, potentially making a new design feel too familiar.

Durian and Rambutan Offer Unusual Possibilities

Durian emerged as another intriguing choice, particularly among fans familiar with Southeast Asian cuisine and culture. One creative suggestion imagined a Durian Pangolin Pokémon, combining the fruit's distinctive spiky exterior with the animal's armored appearance.

Other fans joked about giving Pokémon such as Pineco or Ferroseed a regional form inspired by durian. The rambutan also attracted attention, with fans pointing to its unusual hairy exterior and Southeast Asian origins as potential sources of inspiration for a memorable Pokémon design.

Coconut Pokémon Could Have a Tropical Evolution

The coconut inspired perhaps one of the most unusual evolutionary concepts. One fan imagined a coconut Pokémon that could eventually evolve into a creature based on a piña colada.

Another suggested a hermit crab Pokémon that climbs inside a coconut to protect its soft body, combining natural animal behavior with a tropical fruit theme.

Previously, fans wondered if a new breeding mechanic would become available in Gen 10.
