"Pokémon FireRed" and "Pokémon LeafGreen" players on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 have something worth celebrating since the Kanto remakes are finally getting a feature many fans have waited months for.
The Pokémon Company detailed the update on its official website, giving longtime Pokédex completionists a real reward to work toward.
'Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen' Gives Away a Free Celebi
The Pokémon Company confirmed that players who complete the Pokédex in either "Pokémon FireRed" or "Pokémon LeafGreen" will be able to receive the Mythical Pokémon Celebi as a gift through the mobile version of Pokémon HOME.
According to the official announcement, players will not need to transfer any Pokémon into HOME to earn this reward, since the app will simply recognize their existing in-game Pokédex progress once the two titles are linked.
That distinction matters, since most Pokémon HOME rewards in the past have required players to actually deposit specific Pokémon into the app first.
This time, having a Pokémon registered in the Pokédex within "FireRed" or "LeafGreen" is enough for it to count toward Pokémon HOME's own Pokédex tracker automatically once the connection goes live.
'Pokemon FRLG' Is Getting Pokemon HOME Support
This Celebi reward arrives as part of a broader update, since "Pokémon FireRed" and "Pokémon LeafGreen" on Switch will finally connect to Pokémon HOME starting in October 2026, roughly half a year after the games originally launched.
Once linked, players will be able to transfer Pokémon they befriended in the Kanto remakes into HOME and then bring compatible Pokémon into other titles across the series.
That transfer only works in one direction, though. Pokémon moved out of "FireRed" or "LeafGreen" into Pokémon HOME cannot be sent back into either game afterward, and Pokémon originating from other titles in the series cannot be brought into "FireRed" or "LeafGreen" at all.
The same October update is also raising the Pokémon HOME Premium Plan's storage limit from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokémon. The developers are also adding support for Pokémon caught using a Safari Ball in "Pokémon GO," which will have their ball type converted to a Strange Ball once transferred.
How to Get Your Free Celebi
Earning the Celebi comes down to finishing the Pokédex in either "Pokémon FireRed" or "Pokémon LeafGreen" before linking the game to Pokémon HOME.
Once that connection is made, any Pokémon already registered in a player's in-game Pokédex will automatically sync over to Pokémon HOME's own Pokédex tracker, and completionists can claim their Celebi as a gift directly through the mobile app.
Players who have not yet completed their Pokédex can still work toward it using tools already built into the games, including trading through Pokémon HOME's GTS once the connection is active to help fill in any remaining gaps.
The Pokémon Company has not announced an exact date within October for when the update will go live, so players still chasing a full Pokédex have some time left to finish the job before the Celebi reward becomes claimable.
