Pogues singer Shane MacGowan left almost £5m in will

  • Probate records have revealed that Shane MacGowan , the late frontman and lyricist of The Pogues , left behind an estate with a gross and net value of £4.8 million following his death in November 2023.
  • The musician's wife, Irish author and journalist Victoria Mary Clarke, was named as the sole executor and sole beneficiary of his entire real and personal property.
  • Executed on 14 March 2018, eight months before the couple married in Copenhagen, the will refers to Clarke as his partner and designates his sister, novelist Siobhan MacGowan, as the secondary beneficiary should Clarke have predeceased him.
  • MacGowan died peacefully aged 65 from pneumonia while also suffering from viral encephalitis, just weeks before what would have been his 66th birthday on Christmas Day.
  • The singer's funeral in County Tipperary was attended by fans and high-profile figures, featuring performances and tributes from Australian musician Nick Cave and actor Johnny Depp.
