Where to keep a handkerchief (Letters, 5 October)? I find that tucking it under the bra strap on the shoulder works OK, provided I’m not wearing a high neck. But braless in the hot weather, I had to fall back on the solution recommended by my mother in the 50s: up your knicker leg. Not so easy to extract discreetly.

• In case anyone in the north is sceptical about the £36bn being reallocated from HS2 to fund transport projects, perhaps this promise could be promoted on the side of a bus (HS2: Rishi Sunak’s £36bn in transport funding – is it new or just repackaged?, 4 October).
