Pneumonia, an inflammatory lung condition, poses various risks, particularly to vulnerable populations. Older adults, infants, individuals with weakened immune systems, and those with chronic health conditions face higher susceptibility. Smoking, chronic respiratory diseases, and exposure to environmental pollutants elevate risk.
Pneumonia is caused by various organisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other atypical getms. The usual symptoms are cough, fever, breathlessness, chest pain, tiredness body ache and occasionally coughing out blood. The incidence of pneumonia increases during the winter season especially in vulnerable populations. The cold winds cause the drying of respiratory mucus and bronchospasm and there is an increase in infections due to indoor crowding. Lower body temperature in winter also weakens the immune system.
