PUNE: Hadapsar-bound Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus on Wednesday evening rammed at least five vehicles and injured two motorcyclists after a brake failure on busy Kumathekar Road.
The accident caused major traffic congestion on the Kumathekar road and adjacent areas.
"The injuries of the victims are minor. After the accident they on their own went to the hospital for treatment," senior inspector Sunil Mane of the Vishrantwadi police told TOI.
Rajesh Roopnavar, traffic manager of the PMPML told TOI that the PMPML bus was travelling between the route from Deccan to Hadaspar. " Around 5.30pm, when it reached the Kumathekar Road, the driver realised that the brakes of the bus were not working. The bus's speed was not much as there were several vehicles on the Road," Roopnavar said.
He said that to avert a major accident, the driver tried to turn the bus on its left side. "In that attempt, the bus brushed against three two-wheelers and an autorickshaw, while one autorickshaw stuck between the wall and the bus. Two persons including a woman sustained minor injuries in the incident," Roopnavar said.
Meanwhile, the traffic on the Kumathekar Road and other major roads in the heart city went out of gear in the busy hours. The police had a tough time to resume the traffic.
