Anthony Albanese has donned a wide-brimmed hat as he represents Australia at Pope Leo XIV's inauguration mass before a crowd that has drawn together a rare concentration of world leaders and royalty.

The prime minister says he will hold talks with other leaders as a hive of diplomatic activity is expected to play out on the sidelines of the historic event.
