PM Narendra Modi in Hyderabad, asks people to end family rule in Telangana

HYDERABAD: Taking a strong pitch against hereditary politics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rank and file to take a pledge to end family rule in Telangana.

Addressing a gathering of party workers at the Hyderabad international airport, the Prime Minister said, "In the twenty-first century, hereditary politics is a major impediment to development, and as soon as I felt the breeze of Telangana's soil, I can sense, in the middle of the heat, looking at the enthusiasm our fight is going to win."

Without mentioning the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) or chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, PM Modi attacked the party, claiming that parties run by families try to grab states and keep them under their control by using power.

"Please be strong to fight against the family rule, there has been a lot of development in whatever area the family rule is ended," he said.

Telangana was achieved through the sacrifices of many people for the greater goal of devolution and not for the benefit of a single party, the PM added.

The Prime Minister said those involved in the family rule are traitors. Pointing out the TRS's friendship with AIMIM, he said, "this party rule in is appeasing whom, time to end appeasement and family politics."
