PM Modi recalls 1984 riots, says BJP stands with Sikhs

LUCKNOW: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday slammed the Congress, accusing it of orchestrating the 1984 Sikh riots, which erupted after the assassination of former PM Indira Gandhi.

"Our Sikh brothers and sisters cannot forget what happened during the Congress regime in 1984. Only the BJP is standing with the Sikh community and is working for their welfare," he said in Pilibhit, which has a sizable population of Sikhs (approximately 4%).
