Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be a guest at Kyle Sandilands’ lavish wedding on Saturday, despite the radio host also inviting some “colourful” guests.
But Mr Albanese, who also has form as a keen DJ, has refused to say if he will spin any decks at Saturday’s star-studded million-dollar function.
He has previously promised more than once to step up for DJ duties when Sandilands got married.
In Brisbane on Friday, he defended plans to attend the function.
“I was invited by Kyle Sandilands to his wedding, which is taking place tomorrow in Sydney. I accepted that invitation and I intend to attend the wedding,” he said.
“Kyle Sandilands is someone who’s a significant figure … a bloke who, at one stage was homeless, living on the streets of Sydney, and has grown into someone who is a significant public figure, is a part of what is an Australian success story.
“I was invited to the wedding. I said I’d go. And I keep my commitments, including to Kyle Sandilands.”
Also on the guest list to watch the 51-year-old KIIS FM host and his 29-year-old former personal assistant Tegan Kyanston tie the knot is NSW Premier Chris Minns.
“We wish Mr Sandilands and his fiancee all the best ahead of their wedding,” Mr Minns’ office said on Friday in confirming the Premier’s attendance.
According to reports in the Nine newspapers on Friday, convicted drug smuggler Simon Main will be Sandilands’ best man, while Kings Cross identity John Ibrahim will be one of three groomsmen.
In an appearance on Sandilands’ radio show last June, Mr Albanese promised to DJ at the wedding. He backed it up in January:
“I promised it. I’m waiting for the invite. I’m waiting for the date to slot it in the diary,” he said during another interview on KIIS FM.
Mr Albanese appeared again on the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday. He initially discussed Anzac Day and the government’s Defence Strategic Review.
Reminded by Sandilands about the upcoming wedding, Mr Albanese said: “It’s there, it’s in the diary. I’ll be seeing you there.”
“I’m looking forward it.”
Sandilands joked that he would seat Mr Albanese next to his mother. Last year, when the Mr Albanese confirmed he would attend the wedding, Sandilands said he’d make room in the carpark for the PM’s official government armoured vehicle.
“I’ve got a few other people with bomb-proof cars as well, but they’re different. I’ll put you on different sides of the marquee,” he said.
Sandilands has previously revealed that he expects to spend more than $1 million on his wedding. Last week he told Kyle and Jackie O Show listeners that bills for flowers ($150,000), the wedding cake ($9400-plus), entertainment ($100,000) and suits ($15,000-plus) were already rolling in.
Sandilands said caviar would be on the menu, and his groomsmen would be assisted by three pageboys.
“Look, you only get married once,” he said.
Sandilands and Kynaston got engaged at Christmas 2021. They share an eight-month-old son, Otto.
