An Edinburgh hotel has been named as one of the 10 best new openings in the UK.
Virgin Hotel in the Old Town has been included on the The Observer’s list of the best hotels to open their doors in recent months. The plush accommodation on Victoria Street was the first European venture for global giants Virgin, who found success in the American market.
The Observer describes the city centre hotel as a “vibrant hub” for travellers and locals, after being restored from mid-19th Century India buildings. Rooms are referred to as “chambers” and offer a separate dressing area, scarlet minibars and old-school dial telephones.

There are also HD TVs, SMEG fridges and even a yoga mat in rooms to ensure guests have the most relaxing stay possible. The Sunday newspaper also praises the establishment’s culinary offerings, writing that the “best Scottish seafood” is served with gusto.
There are plenty of food and drink spots in the 222-chamber hotel, including Virgin’s flagship restaurant and bar. A classy night can be spent in the “moodily-lit” Commons Club, or guests can enjoy the cosy feel of the Funny Library Coffee Shop.
Prices range from around £250 in a standard double room, to around £880 to stay in the swankiest suites the hotel can offer. The most expensive room is named “Sir Richard’s Flat”, after Virgin founder Richard Branson.
Guests can “live it up like” the 72-year-old billionaire by staying in room especially designed for him to stay in on his visits to the capital. Elsewhere on The Observer’s list, London dominates the new hotel market, while there are spots for accommodation in Manchester, Cardiff and Leicester.
