Scots who are looking to start a new life in an idyllic countryside need look no further than Arrochar.
The hidden gem village can be found at the head of Loch Long with its own alps and a gateway to the picturesque Argyll Forest Park.
The village ranked 11th on HomeToGo 's 24 hidden gem villages in the UK, and was the only entry on the list hailing from Scotland.
Right now there are two plots for sale in Arrochar which would allow you to build your very own home in the village.
Both plots come with already approved planning permission, which will help you chop down on paperwork and speed up the process that could see you escape to the Argyle dream location.

Building a home in Scotland
According to the Scottish Government, there are a number of things that you should consider when building a home through the process.
If you were to buy one of the Arrochar plots, you would have to consider the following:
Before the build
- Choosing a home type
- Finding and buying a plot of land
- Designing your home
- Getting a self-build mortgage
- Getting planning permission and a building warrant
The plots that are currently available both have approved planning to build a home, so that is one of the prerequisites that you won't have to worry about.
During the build
- Hiring a builder
- Connecting water, electricity and gas services
- Self-build site insurance
Keep in mind that the price of the plot is for the plot alone, and will not reflect the building costs as well as necessary insurance.
After the build
- Reclaiming VAT on your project
The Government site offers more in depth detail on all of these points to ensure that you understand the process from beginning to end.
