Only once in British history has a Prime Minster been assassinated - and it was a Merchant from Liverpool who fired the fatal shot.
The year 1812 was one of violence and conflict as Britain's burgeoning empire was fighting for supremacy of Europe in the Napoleonic Wars. However, the rolling hills and cobbled streets of England were far removed from the battlefields of Europe.
That was until May 11, when aggrieved businessman John Bellingham made his way to Westminster Palace. After drawing a gun from a secret pocket in his coat he walked up to Prime Minister Spencer Percival and shot him at point blank range.
